DAVIDO, a Nigerian singer, was dragged to a Lagos State Magistrate Court for supposed N4,000,000.00 (Four Million Naira) fraud.

The matter that went up for mention at Magistrate Court 2 Igbosere on May 23, 2019 as No 16 on the list of cases. Listed as Defendants in the suit marked MCL/702/19 are: David Adedeji Adeleke (Davido)–his Personal Assistant: Busari Idris Temitiope (Alias Aloma) and; Davido Music Worldwide Limited music label.

None of the Defendants, including Davido, were in court when the matter was called, nor were they represented by their lawyers. Counsel to the Claimant Alabh George Turnah (MON) notified the Court that, according to the Court’s bailiff, the Defendants refused to acknowledge service of the originating proceedings and pleaded with the Court for a replacement service order given by the Court.

Investigation disclosed that only an American-based Nigerian born upcoming artist Andre-Tejiri Ochuko Ibhihwiori In the label of Always on Cash Records will sue Davido and his Personal Assistant for fraudulently acquiring the amount of N4,000,000.00. Court documents disclosed that Davido and his leadership sometime in January 2019 collected the cash as a fee to feature in a musical collabo with artist Tjay but have since failed either to create themselves accessible for the music collabo or to reimburse the cash.

It is not apparent how Davido and his handlers will cope with this issue, whether to go to complete litigation or seek settlement out of court with the claimant who is already seeking 15 percent interest on the main amount of N4,000,000.00 from the date of payment to any date the amount is lastly liquidated. This may turn out to be another episode of Innoson and GTB if the skilled singer and his team mismanage the minor.

In some quarters, it is also suggested that this fraud issue is capable of tainting the singer’s picture and affecting his credibility in the sector if it is not addressed correctly. Feelers from industry players also suggest that Davido could be alone in this matter as a number of his peers and associates who learned from the Court case today and spoke to our correspondence on condition of anonymity expressed shock and sorrow that Davido could participate in such small fraud against an upcoming artist. Efforts to get to Davido and his leadership were unsuccessful as calls to their mobile phones rang without answering endlessly.
